Named in memory of artists John Brady and Frances Kendall, the Brady-Kendall Juried Art Show drew 31 submissions this year. The Columbus County Arts Council sponsors the show, now in its 17th year.

This year’s judge was professional photographer David Pickett from Brunswick County. Arts Council Director Sally Mann awarded prizes to winners during a reception held last month.

Best in Show award winner was Elizabeth Spaulding for “Peace Amongst Chaos.” First- through third-place winners for 2-D works were Rob Bannerman for “A Dip in Blackpool,” Mark Bannerman for “Shattered,” and Amy Strickland for “Florence.”

In the 3-D category, Mary Louise Bannerman’s “Lines and Spaces” won first place, Pam Winsky’s “Aftermath” won second and Becky Kendall’s “The Girl” won third. Honorable mentions went to Curtis Krueger for “Chair Beneath the Milky Way,” September Krueger for “Cluck Cluck” and Sally Medford for “Waking Up.”

State of Art, Art of State 2017 Exhibition: October 8, 2017 – July 8, 2018

Organized by the Cameron Art Museum, this exhibition focuses on contemporary art by artists currently living in, or native to, the state of North Carolina. Artists brought a single work of art to be installed in the museum, delivering the work within a 24-hour period. During this time frame, a nationally renowned curator will be present to greet each artist. The design of this project provides any participating artist equal opportunity to meet a significant curator working in the field of contemporary art today and have their work seen by all visiting curators.

I was not sure I would have this piece finished in time. I actually ended up taking a half day on Friday to work on it! Never got the sky exactly the way I wanted to to be, but I was happy with the boat and the water. My husband took the photo for this piece a few years ago on my dad’s McGregor.  They were about to take it out for a sail on Lake Waccamaw.

Brady Kendall Art Show exhibit 2017

Every year the Columbus County Arts council has their Brady Kendall Art Show and I have yet to submit a piece. One of my goals this year was to paint and I wanted to step out of my average subject matter with a landscape. My husband took this photo from one of our trips to Bald Head Island. I beautiful place. Hopefully I conveyed that in the piece.
