Relax, 12×16 Acrylic on Canvas 2021

This pandemic has taught me to appreciate moments, especially those when everything seems to fall in place. This was one of those moments. We had just returned from a day of sailing at Lake Waccamaw. The kids were playing on the deck and we were hanging out on the porch at the sailing club. There was a calm that comes after a full day on the water and the lake seemed to follow suit. I took a photo, several photos actually, and then a few weeks later picked one out as a reference.

State of Art, Art of State 2017 Exhibition: October 8, 2017 – July 8, 2018

Organized by the Cameron Art Museum, this exhibition focuses on contemporary art by artists currently living in, or native to, the state of North Carolina. Artists brought a single work of art to be installed in the museum, delivering the work within a 24-hour period. During this time frame, a nationally renowned curator will be present to greet each artist. The design of this project provides any participating artist equal opportunity to meet a significant curator working in the field of contemporary art today and have their work seen by all visiting curators.

I was not sure I would have this piece finished in time. I actually ended up taking a half day on Friday to work on it! Never got the sky exactly the way I wanted to to be, but I was happy with the boat and the water. My husband took the photo for this piece a few years ago on my dad’s McGregor.  They were about to take it out for a sail on Lake Waccamaw.
