About

Sally Jo Medford, a North Carolina artist whose unique gestural style brings out the simplistic beauty in her subjects.

Art has always been a constant in her life. Winning her first art award at age seven, her parents quickly realized that she inherited the skills of her late grandfather Charles P. Logan.

They were more than happy to encourage her abilities when artist Mary Louise Bannerman invited Sally Jo to study under her. After eight years of her lessons Sally Jo began taking classes under Mary Louise’s husband Mark A. Bannerman. Sally Jo’s style was greatly influenced by Mr. Bannerman’s use of color and line. The Bannerman’s guidance led to her decision to become an art teacher and ultimately an artist.

Sally Jo was awarded the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship in 1999 and attended East Carolina University and its highly accredited School of Art and College of Education. Sally Jo graduated (2003) with a BFA in Art Education and a concentration in Painting and Drawing. She taught art for 20 years in the public school system.

She is currently living in Whiteville, NC.
